Privacy Policy
Last Updated: September 11, 2026
1. Introduction
DineXp helps people discover restaurants, browse menus, save places they like, share reviews and decide where to eat. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use dinexp.club and our related services (the "Service"), why we collect it, who we share it with and what rights you have.
DineXp is operated from Johannesburg, South Africa. We are the responsible party for the personal information described here under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 ("POPIA"), and the controller where the GDPR applies.
DineXp is a discovery platform. We do not take bookings, process orders or handle payments. When you tap through to a restaurant to reserve, order, message or call, you leave DineXp and that restaurant's or platform's own privacy terms apply.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information you give us
- Account information. You sign in with a Google account or an email sign-in link, so we receive your email address and, where you sign in with Google, your name and profile picture. We never ask you to create a DineXp password.
- Profile and creator information. If you set up a public profile or apply to be a creator, we store what you enter: username, display name, title, short bio, city, food specialties, links to your Instagram, TikTok or YouTube, and any avatar or cover image you upload.
- Reviews and content. Your rating, review text, the restaurant or dish it relates to, and any social post you link to it.
- Saved items. The restaurants you bookmark and the dishes you add to cravings.
- Game activity. When you play "Decide where to eat" with friends, we store the display name you choose, the shortlist of restaurants in that session and your yes or no on each one. Anyone with the session code sees the name you pick.
- Messages to us. If you send feedback or contact support, we keep what you write and how to reply to you.
2.2 Information we collect automatically
- Device and connection data. IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, language and time zone.
- Usage data. Pages and restaurants you view, searches and filters you use, menus you open, and buttons you tap, including when you tap a restaurant's reserve, order, WhatsApp, call, directions or website button.
- Approximate or precise location. Only if your browser asks and you allow it. We use your coordinates to sort places by distance and to build a nearby shortlist. We do not keep a history of where you have been.
- Cookies and similar technologies. See section 4.
2.3 Information from other sources
Restaurant information on DineXp — including addresses, opening hours, menus, photos, ratings and price levels — comes from the venues themselves and from public sources. That is business information, not information about you.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Run the Service: show you restaurants, menus, reviews and saved items, and keep you signed in.
- Personalise what you see, including nearby and city-based recommendations.
- Publish the content you choose to make public, such as reviews and creator profiles.
- Run group game sessions and show results to the people in them.
- Understand how DineXp is used so we can improve it, subject to your cookie choice.
- Measure advertising for restaurants on our platform, only if you accept all cookies.
- Respond to your questions, prevent abuse and fraud, keep the Service secure, and meet our legal obligations.
Where the law requires consent — analytics and advertising measurement, and access to your device location — we rely on the choice you make. Otherwise we rely on performing our agreement with you (our Terms of Service), our legitimate interest in running and improving a safe service, or compliance with the law.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to make decisions about you by automated means that have legal or similarly significant effects.
4. Cookies and Your Choices
The first time you visit you can choose Accept all or Essential only. You can change your mind at any time using Cookie Settings in the footer. Your choice is remembered for six months, after which we ask again.
- Essential. The cookie that keeps you signed in and the record of your cookie choice. These are always on and cannot be switched off.
- Analytics. Which pages you view, what you search for and which buttons you use, so we can see how DineXp is used. With Essential only, this is processed without storing anything on your device and is not linked to you across visits.
- Advertising measurement. Only with Accept all. Our advertising measurement partners set cookies, and we share actions such as viewing a restaurant or tapping its reservation, WhatsApp, call, order or directions buttons with the social media platforms where restaurants advertise, so they can see whether that advertising brings them customers. This never includes your name or email address.
If you withdraw consent, we stop the relevant processing and clear the advertising identifiers we hold in your browser. Withdrawal does not undo processing that already happened.
Some pages load content from other services, such as embedded social media posts and our feedback form. Those providers may set their own cookies when the content loads.
5. Who We Share It With
- Service providers who run parts of DineXp for us, including sign-in, hosting, databases, content delivery, analytics and feedback forms. They may only use the information to provide their service to us.
- Advertising and measurement partners, so restaurants can see whether their advertising works, and only if you accept all cookies.
- Restaurants, in aggregate. A venue can see how many people viewed its page or tapped its buttons. It does not see who you are unless you post a public review or contact it yourself.
- Anyone, where you choose to publish: reviews, creator profiles and the display name you use in a group game session are public to the people who can see them.
- Authorities or advisers, where we are legally required to disclose information, or need to establish or defend legal claims.
- A successor, if DineXp is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. We will tell you before your information becomes subject to a different policy.
6. Where Your Information Is Processed
We are based in South Africa, but some of our providers process information in the European Union, the United States and elsewhere. Where we transfer personal information out of South Africa or the European Economic Area, we do so on the basis of an adequacy decision, standard contractual clauses, or a provider's binding commitment to a comparable level of protection, as POPIA and the GDPR require.
7. How Long We Keep It
- Account, profile and saved items: while your account is open, and for a short period after you delete it.
- Reviews and public creator content: while published. If you delete a review it is removed from public view.
- Group game sessions: automatically deleted 24 hours after the session is created.
- Analytics and advertising measurement data: retained on our providers' standard schedules, typically no longer than 24 months.
- Records we must keep for legal, tax or dispute purposes: for as long as the law requires.
8. Security
We use measures appropriate to the risk, including encryption in transit, signed session cookies, access controls on our databases and sign-in handled by a specialist authentication provider rather than passwords we store. No service is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information you transmit to us. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
9. Children
DineXp is not directed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Your Rights
Under POPIA and, where it applies, the GDPR, you may:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy.
- Ask us to correct or complete information that is inaccurate.
- Ask us to delete information we no longer have grounds to keep.
- Object to processing based on our legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time.
- Ask us to restrict processing while a dispute is resolved.
- Ask us to transfer your information to you or another provider in a usable format.
- Withdraw consent you have given, including your cookie choice, at any time.
Much of this you can do yourself: edit or delete your reviews and profile in the app, and change your cookie choice from the footer. For anything else, email us at the address below. We will respond within the period the law allows. You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa, or to your local supervisory authority if you are in the EEA or the UK.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as DineXp changes. We will post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will tell you before it takes effect.
